Sunday in Cuenca. Thought it would be quiet in town today and a good day for photos. Was half right. It was a good day for photos -but anything but quiet. By 9:00, the down town was busy. I don't know what time masses start, but it must be early. All of the open (indigenous) markets were thriving. About everything that can be sold is sold. Families filled the main square and side streets. The ice cream vendors were very busy.

Street music and shows popped up. Near the main plaza, an Andean duo were playing traditional music with the old instruments. They had some CDs - we bought one. Close by was a puppeteer. He was dressed in a monk's robe to be invisible. He had a life sized puppet that was playing guitar. It was really cool. Don't know how he kept it up. His fingers must be extremely calloused.

At the flower market, the Andean women were very busy. It was very colorful. Had almuerzo in town. Doing a traditional ecuadoriano soup tonight.

We have direct TV in the apartment. About half the programming is telenovellas or weird, silly game type shows, in Spanish. We, also, get about 30 channels of futbol and rugby. Amazingly, there is a channel showing American football on this afternoon (en ingles). Don't know if that is good or bad. Going to post some photos, hope they convey the atmosphere.
