Another cool day in Cuenca. Warmer than yesterday. Pockets of sun. One short lived rain burst. Becky had do do some work this morning. I went for a walk.F From our hotel, it is a short walk over the river to a nice park area. It has walking/running trails, a soccer field (I mean futbol), and other amenities for little kids. We had noticed from our room that there was a lot of activity there in the mornings and afternoons.
I ventured over there to take my walk. There was some serious training going on. It was all boys and young men except one speed walker. There were several coaches. They had started long before I got there and continued long after I left. They trained running sideways, backwards, on all fours belly down and belly up. They ran with poles on their shoulders did hurdles and broad jump strides. Didn't see anyone sweating but me - and I was walking at a snails pace. Still getting used to the altitude. Put these guys at sea level - I don't know what they can do. Cuenca is the home of Jefferson Perez. He is an Ecudoriano speed walker. He won an Olympic gold medal (Ecuador's only) and many world tiltles. He must be the inspiration for what is going on at the park
Becky and I went to the Museo of Arte Moderno. It was disappointing, as much of it was off exhibit. We had lunch at an Austrian Cafe and did another MeNu del Dia. Not as cheap as yesterday but good - plus we skipped the chocolate today. During all this we had dropped our phones off to have sim cards put in. There were some delays. We could not understandt the problem, as our Spanish is so limited. Becky, not a patient person anyway, was quite concerned that our phones were getting hacked. In the end, it all worked out and we got Becky off the ledge. Lesson learned -we need to adjust our time expectations, trust people to do the right thing, but also be vigilant in assessing things. Still working on getting pictures posted.
