Cuenca at last.  Oh wait - airport delays.  Are we going?  Our first surprise is that we have no gate assignment.  I ask, " Que es la puerta para nuestra avion?  " No confirmada" What the heck does that mean? So we hang around trying to look like we know what the drill is. We finally follow the crowd through security to a large waiting room.  We hope this is where we are supposed to be. Soon an American woman, married to an Ecuadoriano  talks to us and tells us we are in the right place. They are on our flight.  So we keep a close eye on them.

She later tells us that there are two ladies from Georgia traveling on the same flight.  We meet them. They are very nice and give us some good contacts. But they are clearly on a different path then we are.

Two hour delay announced.  We watched a phenomena that is apparently quite common.  After the delay is announced, a huge crowd of angry people approach the agent desk.  After much ranting and raving, free drink and food vouchers are distributed.  Everyone is quieta.

Finally in the air. Short flight to Quenca. Arrival at the hotel with no hassle.  Escaped extra weight charges.  Made up for the middle row seat.

Quenca is beautiful.  Hotel is basic.  But right on the main river through old town. Used to be a private residence. Great view.  Because of the flight delay, we manage a short excursion into town. I find an art store! I actually can purchase a drying medium - yes Leah I will still use one here. We discover many venues we must return to. Dinner at a quiet Cuban place on the river - two entrees, wine - fifteen dollars (with tip). Tomorrow - apartment shopping.
