Turi - Galleria Vega
We went to the tiny puebla of Turi this morning. It is located just south of Cuenca city. It is only a few miles from the outer perimeter road of Cuenca. But it is straight up a mountain. When you arrive at Turi you feel very far away from Cuenca. The Mirador at Turi is a small area that looks out over the city. It is popular with the locals as well as tourists. The small puebla has some tourist shops. Nothing of much interest to us. A small outdoor tienda had a pig roasting (hornado). Unfortunately, we were a little early for lunch.
Besides the Mirador, the other main draw to Turi is the Galleria Vega. This gallery is located on the side of the mountain. It is the home, studio and showroom of Eduardo Vega. He is a very celebrated ceramic artist in Ecuador. Many of his works have historical value in the art world of Ecuador. Some of it is located in a separate room in the gallery. He has had great commercial success. The house, building and grounds are very beautiful. He has a similar view as you do from the Mirador.
